Getting Started

Installation Guide

Follow these steps to install and configure Auto Capture for your BigCommerce store. Installation typically takes less than 5 minutes.

Prerequisites

Active BigCommerce Store

You need an active BigCommerce store on any plan (Standard, Plus, Pro, or Enterprise).

Store Owner or Admin Access

You must have store owner or administrator privileges to install apps and manage settings.

Payment Gateway with Authorization

For payment capture features, your payment gateway must support 'Authorize Only' transactions (e.g., Stripe, Braintree, PayPal).

Installation Steps

1

Find Auto Capture in the Marketplace

Navigate to the BigCommerce App Marketplace by going to your store's control panel and clicking Apps in the left sidebar, then selecting Marketplace.

Search for "Auto Capture" in the search bar, or browse the Order Management category.

2

Click Install

On the Auto Capture app listing page, click the Install button. You'll be redirected to the authorization page.

3

Authorize the Application

Review the permissions that Auto Capture requires. These permissions are necessary for the app to function:

Permissions Requested:

  • Orders (Read/Modify): Access order data and update order statuses
  • Store Inventory (Read): Check inventory levels (including multi-location stock) for in-stock capture
  • Store Information (Read): Identify your store for the dashboard

Click Confirm to authorize the app and complete installation.

4

Automatic Webhook Setup

Once authorized, Auto Capture automatically registers the necessary webhooks with your BigCommerce store. These webhooks allow the app to receive real-time notifications about new orders and status changes.

Webhooks Registered:

  • store/order/created - Triggered when a new order is placed
  • store/order/statusUpdated - Triggered when an order status changes
5

Access the Dashboard

After installation, you'll be automatically redirected to the Auto Capture dashboard. You can also access it anytime by going to Apps → My Apps in your BigCommerce control panel and clicking on Auto Capture.

Initial Configuration

1. Choose a Subscription Plan

Navigate to Billing in the sidebar to select your subscription plan. All plans include a 7-day free trial—no credit card required to start.

The app will recommend a plan based on your historical order volume.

2. Configure Automation Settings

Go to Settings to configure your automation preferences:

  • Auto Order Status Update: Enable to automatically change new order statuses (e.g., from "Pending" to "Awaiting Fulfillment").
  • Auto Payment Capture (Status-Based): Capture payments automatically when orders reach a specific status.
  • Auto Payment Capture (Inventory-Based): Capture payments for new orders when all items are in stock.

3. Set Up Email Notifications

In the Settings page, scroll to the Email Notifications section to add email recipients for:

  • • Successful payment capture notifications
  • • Failed capture alerts
  • • Daily digest summaries

Troubleshooting

Installation Failed

If the installation fails, try the following:

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Disable any browser extensions that might block popups or scripts
  • Try using a different browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended)
  • Ensure you have store owner or admin permissions

Payment Capture Not Working

If payments aren't being captured automatically:

  • Verify your payment gateway supports "Authorize Only" mode
  • Check that your payment gateway is configured for authorization (not immediate capture)
  • Ensure the correct trigger status is selected in Settings
  • Review the Activity Log for error messages

Webhooks Not Triggering

If automations aren't running when orders are placed:

  • Check the Dashboard to ensure webhooks are registered and healthy
  • Verify your subscription is active (not expired or past due)
  • Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to refresh webhooks

"Access Denied" Error

If you see an "Access Denied" page:

  • Auto Capture must be accessed through the BigCommerce control panel, not directly via URL
  • Log in to your BigCommerce admin and navigate to Apps → My Apps → Auto Capture

Uninstallation

To uninstall Auto Capture from your BigCommerce store:

  1. 1Go to your BigCommerce control panel
  2. 2Navigate to Apps → My Apps
  3. 3Find Auto Capture and click the Uninstall button
  4. 4Confirm the uninstallation when prompted

Note: Uninstalling will immediately stop all automations, remove webhooks, and cancel your subscription. Your historical data will be retained for 30 days in case you reinstall.
